We are saddened by the news of the recent death of Tom Steinis last week after a fight with cancer at age 60. Tom loved Silver Lake and gave many hours helping to maintain vehicles, working at Action Weekends, and serving on the Summer camp staff. He owned Oakville Garage, where many Lakers brought their vehicles to be serviced, including Alden and Ruth Tyrol. His funeral will be on Friday, December 26th, at 11 am at the Oxford United Church of Christ on Rt 67 in Oxford, CT.
These last few years have been marked by a number of Lakers who have passed away too soon. I think of Walter “Scooter” Pitman, Bruce Cast, Carl Reynolds, Karl Duetzmann, John Cooksey, and now Tom Steinis. There are many more I know.
It is comforting to know that you and I stand in the midst of a great cloud of witnesses, people who loved God, neighbor, others, and creation. Each, in their own way, lived a life that impacted many and gave us an example of what faithful living might be like. May all their memories be a tribute to a loving God and a special place we know as “the Lake.”
